On Thursday 17th November, we hosted our last Developer Evening of the year. Despite the rainy weather we had a great turnout, with many new faces coming through to join us. The first 15 guests to arrive even won themselves an awesome Warewolf T-shirt.
These evenings are greatly supported by the local Dev community and are important for keeping our local Dev’s innovative and up to speed with new technologies. By networking and sharing ideas these Dev’s can gain more knowledge and build a world-class Developer Community in South Africa.
We were thoroughly entertained by our Speakers, and we need to say a special thanks to these guys for coming through and chatting to the new (and old) devs.
In case you missed it, here’s what happened:
Richard Gevers from Open Data Durban kicked things off with a really interesting talk on open data and how it can change the lives of the people of eThekweni. Open Data Durban is a non-profit, civic technology lab which works with municipalities and local government to keep stats up-to-date and accessible. For more info visit Open Data Durban.
Pivendren Naik, or shall we call him Naik, spoke on Bots and the conversational UI. He gave us great tips and tricks on the etiquette of creating Bots and how to keep them simple and user friendly. If you missed out on the event, you can visit his blog to find out more.
Gordon Beeming, family man, Visual Studio ALM Ranger and Microsoft MVP took us for a lightening walk through the Visual Studio Team Services. He shared some new features and developments in Visual Studio that have just been released.
The night closed off with Brent Samodien’s hilarious and very informative talk on the Modern UI and the HoloLens. He came all the way to the wet and cold Hillcrest, from sunny Johannesburg, with a great sense of humour which had us all in stitches.
The night was a great success and a special thanks goes out to our Sponsors, 101 Careers, Warewolf, Helen Lucre Resources and iStudent Academy, for keeping these events free and our guests well nourished!
Don’t miss out on our next Dev evening, send us an email and we will send the invite straight to your mailbox.
