Last night we held our 8th Dev Evening since we starting running them in 2012. Our very first Dev Evening had about 15 attendees in our old office in Kloof. Back then I thought we were doing pretty well!
The community event has become so popular that we have had to move it out of our office and borrow a larger events room from The Unlimited, the other tenants in the office park. Last night we had in excess of 100 developers. I was really happy to see that about 25% of them were “new”, but still with the support of our hardcore devs who never miss an event (you’re awesome).
Of course, there is no Dev Evening without the speakers. A special thanks to our own Leon Rajindrapersadh who kept us informed and entertained with his session on F# (Replacing 40k lines of C# with 2k lines of F#), and hilarious memes. A big thank you also to Mark Whitfield who shared some of his experience and wisdom on Brownfield TDD – it is definitely the way to go for all new and development project.
Our Dev Evenings are free for developers and are made possible by the sponsorship that we receive. A huge thank you to Warewolf, 101 Careers and Think360. Because of them we had some awesome giveaways (how cool are those USB sticks?) and we could keep everyone well hydrated and properly fueled during the event.
If you’d like to be notified of our next Dev Evening, email us and you’ll get an invite straight to your mailbox! We hold 3 – 4 Dev Evenings a year, with varied topics that are relevant to software developers. These events are always free to attend, and a great way to expand your knowledge and network with other devs.
